Men and women remove some of their hair some of the time and some even remove every one of their hairs all the time. Everybody does it. Everybody removes some hair, some time and from some where. Some do it everyday, some do it periodically and some no longer need to do it. Billions and billions of hairs are removed, eliminated, cut, pulled, shaved or burnt, every single day of the year.
The reasons for doing it can be social, medical or even religious or cultural.
Social: Due to trends and fashion.

In the sixties with the hippy movement long hair was in.During most of the 20th century a clean shave and short hair was common with men in our Western society. Women's leg and under arm hair removal began around the twenties as a result of clothes fashion (shorter skirts and sleeve less blouses). Now days, a more hairless look is in, but with a much wider variety of fashion and looks than at any other time.
Medical:
As a result of hair loss due to side effects from certain treatmentsHygiene.
Religious and Cultural:
Various religions and sects have traditions that govern hair styles. For example for the Sikhs any sort of hair removal is prohibited. By the same token various oriental religions, specially within monastery communities, require head shaving.
Traditionally people have been getting rid of unwanted hair using one of two methods - cutting it or pulling in out in some form or manner. These methods are known as depilation or as epilation.
Depilation:
This refers to eliminating hair from above the skin or at skin level. Examples of this are shaving, be it a razor or an electric razor or scissors. As the hair is cut above the skin its regrowth is much quicker and therefore will have to be removed more often.
Epilation:
This is the term used for hair removal from beneath the skin, by the roots so to speak. An example of this is the waxing method. As the hair is pulled out, regrowth will take longer, from a few days and up to three weeks.
The type of hair removal method someone will use will usually depend on:
the amount of hair (plucking a full head of hair versus head shaving)the area (between the eyebrows can easily be plucked)gender (a man will normally shave facial hair, a woman will not)how often (if you are looking for a temporary solution or a permanent one)the costs involvedease of methoddiscomfort or pain involved (or lack of)
Many times more than one of these reasons will affect the method you pick so it is best you identify your priorities to make your choice.
