The Mother Hair Straightener - Is It the Mother of All Hair Stylers?

Hair straighteners or hair styler's as they are known have become extremely popular over recent years. It is estimated that over 30 million women and over 5 million men in the United Kingdom own a pair.

Hair salons started the using them around the late 1990's initially to straighten hair. They became more familiar with using them and started experiment using techniques to add flicks waves and curls using a hair iron.

On the market today there are hundreds of different models to choose from. Offering wet to dry straightening, adjustable temperature control different plate surfaces as well as different shapes and styles of models ergonomically shaped in various designs.

Manufacturers latched on to the idea that for consumers with different lengths of hair needed a different width plate. The main reason for this was the speed and ease of use. Three models came to market a standard model of medium hair a wide plate for longer thicker hair and a thinner plate for use on short hair or touching up fringes and problem areas.

This meant that hair salons have three sizes of hair styler's to match their client's types of hair. In a hair salon time is money and the longer it takes a stylist to finish a clients hair means the longer they have the next client waiting or they run over at the end of the day.

Manufacturer's realised that from what was happening in the salons could be applied to consumers. A hair straightener model could come in different sizes with different features.

This is what makes the new Mother straightener unique and different. On first look it looks like any other hair straightener but when it is turned around it reveals two buttons. When these buttons are depressed they allow the plates to be changed with a simple click and lock.

Once the unit is switched back on the plus or minus buttons can be used to adjust the temperature in 20 degree increments. This ranges from 50 to 230 degrees in approximately thirty seconds. What's different and rarely seen on other styler's is the display counts up as the required temperature is met giving a very exact reading to the user.

On first look the body looks heavy but even with the large paddle plates which are one of the largest on the market and are one centimetre larger than a GHD wide. This is because they are made from lightweight titanium which is durable and has great heat properties.

The acid test of any hair iron is how it goes through the hair. When applied the Mother's plates glide effortlessly through the hair almost like glass. After using at two hundred and thirty degrees they left the hair looking shiny feeling softer and lighter and more manageable.

When you are done using the unit it comes with a handy plate locking mechanism. It then can be sheathed inside one of its standard or wide sized silicone covers. I have never seen these before they are made of a silicone rubber making them virtually indestructible.

The whole Mother Straightening Set comes in a shoe box size presentation box which would make a fabulous gift box. Inside the box on the top is the styler and included wide plates. To the left hand bottom is a nice metal plate reading "A Mother's Love Is Made of Iron" which makes a really cute touch. Below is stored the three meter cord with euro adapter plug two sets of heat covers for either plate a silicone heat mat and guarantee booklet.

Conclusion

The obvious benefits to the end user are the fact that you get two size plates for the price of one. This also makes perfect sense for any hair salon using different width hair styler's for clients with this system they can replace with only one that will do the job and more.

Where the Mother system really has some advantages is when it is used in the hair the plates really do leave the hair feeling soft and shiny. Styles stay in the hair and the unit packs enough adjustable punch to take on any hair type. It's one of the first hair irons I have seen that the plates go through the hair and on the highest setting styles with one pass.
