Whether he is the one who designed the apparel or the model or celebrity who wears it, men today are very capable of handling style and becoming fashion icons comparable with women. Here are some "prime cut" examples of men who set the fashion standard wherever they go, be it the red carpet or the local pub. Men known as the "Mods" were London Modernist back in the 1960's when they changed the fashion world, bringing young and handsome British men into the "in" fashion circle where few had dared go before. The Beatles themselves were leaders in male fashion trends for that and the following decade. Fads would come and go rapidly yet a few stylish men defined the next generation of style with a definite masculine flair. Along with clothing music as well as television programming was affected by these daring standouts. The Who, The Kinks, and The Small Faces were among British rock groups who made fashion statements that spread around the world, bringing their style of "style" to all who dared change from the stuffy 50's fashions.

From hair styles to boots men had a certain classic appeal

Once the Beatles hit the scene in early 60's we could see they would be a force to reckon with when it came to modern fashion. Today their style is considered to be "classic" but back then they were the trend setters when it came to attire. Their hair style (called a mop top by many) reflected a sort of certain independence while their boots bespoke stylish abandon. After them the rest of the world adapted the hip and happening style and it spread around the world and included women as well. And while leading actors and musicians led the pack, many fashion icons came from the night clubs and bistros where fashion made a political statement or seemed to be needed to prove men's velour.

Leaders Cary Grant Clark Gable and Frank Sinatra made a statement

Among the most admired men on the planet the actors Grant, Gable, Michael Caine, and Sinatra come to mind as being fashion leaders. They were typically vain as most actors or singers tend to be but also they had the "feel" or good taste to know what worked when it came to wardrobe. They always looked good! Women swooned and other men aspired to look as stylish as some who basked in the limelight of popularity. Others who claimed the fashion spotlight, if only briefly included Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, and Robert Redford. Today we find the "best dressed" list includes George Clooney, David Bowie, and Daniel Craig who each has his own appeal and style of dress. Hair also makes a statement and men who wear their hair short cropped and smooth seem to have a good grip on the reality of who they are.

Clothing definitely makes the man as it defines the generation

Over the decades styles in clothing have altered slightly. Fashionably short pant legs, baggy slacks, French cuffs with cuff links, wide to narrow (then back to wide) ties, and shoes have defined each generation and with each change a new generation brings their own particular taste and choices the world. Allowing the new fashion makers the freedom to choose and guide makes the world a more diverse one for us all to live in.
