If you have a job interview coming up congratulations, you may be half way to the position of your dreams! We know how important it is to get this step right and your appearance will really influence you chances. First impressions last, so for some tips on how to make a fabulous first impression read on.

Grooming. The best suit in the world won't help you if you turn up to interview looking like you have been pulled through a hedge backwards, so pay attention to your hair and nails. Be sure that your hair is clean and in a neat and tidy style. Longer locks may be best pinned up and stick with natural hair tones. Nails should be neutral and freshly manicured: If you bite your nails you may even wish to consider some subtle false ones, preferably professionally applied, losing a nail when you shake hands with your potential employer is not a good look!

Dress code. Find out what the dress code is at this place of work and use it as a guide, maybe taking things up a notch from current employees. Tailored items are often best and avoid short skirts, shorts, tight or revealing clothing. Black, navy and grey are all safe choices. If you opt for a skirt be sure to wear hosiery with it. It goes without saying that your clothes should be ironed prior to wearing but also check for tears, holes, stains and unstitched hems before you settle on your outfit. Don't leave this to the night before!

Foot wear. Go for flats or a sensible heel and avoid embellishment, open toes, sandals, trainers, platforms or boots. Give your final choice a quick clean and scuff check.

Makeup, perfume and accessories. When it comes to makeup for interview natural is best; stick with neutral shades and keep it subtle. Tone down any fragrance and leave jewellery at a minimum, maybe wearing one statement ring or a pendant. In most cases one (in each) ear lobe piercing is more than enough and cover tattoos where possible. Take a neat, structured bag that ties in with the shades that you are wearing.
