Hair extensions have grown more and more popular as women realize they are the easiest way to find new, fun hairstyles to go out with. Rather than choosing between permanent long or short coifs, you can have the best of both worlds. Of course, good extensions can be expensive, so what if you decide a more drastic change is in order? Of course, what we're talking about is a dye job. The good news is that you may be able to dye your artificial locks as well. There are two types: synthetic and real. You're asking for trouble if you try to dye the synthetic ones, but real ones can be changed to match your natural color!

If you're looking for the right dye, your best bet is a salon or dedicated beauty store. You can try the stuff from the drugstore, but you're going to find it much harder to get a good match that way. It's more expensive to get the good stuff, but this is one of those times where the extra money is more than worth it. Make sure you get anything you need to go along with it, if you're buying fresh dye from the salon. Latex gloves, an applicator, and so on. The personnel working there will be able to show you everything you need for success.
Before starting the dye job, run a comb through your hair extensions and get them nice and smooth and untangled. Even a small tangle can lead to a concentration of the dye in one area, which will not look right when you're finished. You want everything to come out nice and evenly. Wash any and all styling products out as well and wait for them to dry before you proceed.
Use a combination of your hands, the applicator, and a comb to coat your extensions in the dye. Make sure and thoroughly saturate them. You don't want to miss a single strand. Using too much shouldn't be a problem. The dye should give you instructions as to how long your should leave it on. Just follow the same instructions as you would if using it on your own.
Finally, rinse out the dye with warm water, apply conditioner, and then rinse the conditioner out with cold water to lock in the color. You can then blow dry your hair extensions or leave them to dry on their own.
